APA GUAPIMIRIM

At the innermost part of Guanabara Bay lies one of the largest remaining preserved mangrove ecosystems in the State of Rio de Janeiro, protected by two conservation units: the Guapi-Mirim Environmental Protection Area (APA) and the Guanabara Ecological Station. In this location, we will take a boat tour led by experienced boatmen, during which we will have the chance to observe a variety of bird species typical of mangrove habitats, marshes, wetlands, and grasslands.

Relevant species:  Greater Ani, Cabot's Tern, Yellow-crowned Night-Heron, Black-backed Water-Tyrant, Cocoi Heron, Chestnut-bellied Seed-Finch, Spotted Sandpiper, White-faced Marsh-Tyrant, Gray-necked Wood-Rail, Lemon-chested Greenlet, Savanna Hawk, Brazilian Tanager, Little Blue Heron, Bicolored Conebill, Unicolored Blackbird, Gray-hooded Gull, Anhinga, Rusty-collared Seedeater, Crested Doradito, Harri's Hawk, Long-winged Harrier, Spoonbill, Ringed Kingfisher, Rufous-sided Crake, and White-cheeked Pintail, among many others.
